For our stop motion project I worked with Mia, Zoe, and Allison. While doing this, each of us had specific roles in making it look how we wanted it. On the day that we actually started filming it, Allison wasn't able to be there so we had her cut out and make things the previous day. Zoe, Mia, and I went ahead and started making it the next day. I used my phone for recording it and adding the music. Since stop motion is very time consuming, it took a lot of concentration for us to get it finished. While doing recording, each piece had to be moved in between each shot. As it may sound, this took a long time. The 4 of us all worked together to make things, move things, and provide things.
Our video was definitely successful because it came out just how we wanted it. As a group, we really enjoyed looking at the work we did together. The stop motion is really a cool thing to do and I'm glad i got to try it. In the end, I think that if I were going to change anything, it would be how precisely we moved the characters while taking each picture. Overall I was really impressed with the storyline and the music (which fit perfectly)! For my main project I decided that my limitation should be finger painting. After I figured out what I was going to be painting I thought that I should probably make it more interesting by adding colors. That's when I realized a sunset would be a perfect way to add more colors. The biggest problem that I came across was making straight lines and blending the colors together. Luckily, the paint I used was acrylic and once it dries it can easily be painted over. After I got the hang of it the blending became a little bit easier, but it was still hard to make the colors flow perfectly into each other.
Land Art For the land art my group and I created something out of little yellow flowers and leaves. Some things that I learned from this were that 3 dimensional objects were easy to work with and fun to make different shapes out of. Since we had to go outside and hand pick all of the leaves and flowers it made the project more interesting and gave us an opportunity to find inspiration. In the end the piece came out how we wanted it, so I would say it was successful. If I were to do this project again I would see if there would be any other shape to do to make it better. Clay Animal The object that I chose to do for the clay animal was a bunny. While doing the bunny I realized how important it was to pay attention to detail it is. As I was doing the face of the rabbit I found it really hard to get the facial features correct. Overall, the body and ears was a success, but the face definitely was not. If I were to change it if I re-did it I would have made sure to be more careful while adding details. Styrogami The styrogami art that I did was the most interesting concept, in my opinion. First of all, styrofoam is extremely hard to cut! Everything I tried came out jagged or cut into the wrong direction. I learned that it was easier to go with the flow rather than trying to get it perfectly like you wanted it. Considering that I didn't have a specific goal I was working towards, I think that it was a success. Although it doesn't look like anything real it's still abstract and that's what I like about it.
Mini Lessons: "Learning Materials" spheres: The difference between getting inspiration and stealing another artist's work is big. If you are getting inspiration from another piece, it means you are looking at their ideas and trying to make something out of them, but at the same time making them your own. If you are stealing a piece of work it usually means you take their complete idea without giving them any credit and claiming it as your own. It is definitely okay to use an idea or piece of their artwork and change it, because that means you are personalizing it. Also, it is always okay to give the original artist credit for their artwork because it shows that you have your own ideas and you do not need other people to be successful. Two In One I combined the alive and dead tree because although it's hard to see the gradual change from summer to winter, the trees change a lot. The mediums I chose were water color and pen. I chose these two mediums because water color has very vibrant colors, and the sharpie pen shows up really well when drawn over water color. In my opinion I don't love water colors because sometimes they are hard to mix and get the colors you want, but I chose it anyway so it would match the idea that I had in my head. If I were to change one thing about my piece I would have planned out how I was going to go about the dead side of the tree. The thicker branches weren't what I had in mind. If I had known what exactly I was going to draw I wouldn't have messed up. Other than that, I think the most successful thing about my piece is the overall look that it has. I really like how the contrast of each side is attention grabbing and how the different colors make it pop.
